What is your interest rate?
UpgradeUSA offers laptop computers on a monthly payment plan. Because it is a lease, and not financing, there is no interest charged in our program. There is a lease fee with each monthly payment, and customers are welcome to pay the account off early, or cancel the lease and ship the laptop back, to avoid any further lease fees.
Does UpgradeUSA offer anything other than computers?
We are focused on delivering our customers a variety of high-quality, brand-name laptop and tablet computers. Choosing a Computer
What brand of laptops or tablets do you carry?
What if I don't want to continue leasing the computer?
If you change your mind and want to end your lease, we make it easy for you. You have two choices: 1) you can pay off your account at any time at a lower price, or 2) you can let us know that you're canceling the lease (after the minimum lease term has ended) and we will work with you to arrange a return of the computer. We try to make things very easy for our customers, and we hope that you're delighted with our service!
Do you ship to P.O. Box addresses?
No, we are only able to ship computers directly to a physical address.
Once I'm approved, how long do I have to make a decision?
After you receive your approval email and activate your account, you can start your lease at any time. Our inventory changes each week so if you see something you like, keep in mind that it may be gone if you wait too long. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, keep checking our inventory or contact us today!
When will I receive the laptop or tablet?
We ship our computers after we receive your first payment. You can browse our laptops and each one has the expected shipping time listed in the description. Some computers may ship the same day, and others may take longer depending on their special order status. If you require expedited shipping, contact us and we will work with you on shipping arrangements.
Is there any software included with the computer?
Each computer comes with factory-installed software, such as games or trial versions of software. We do not install any additional applications, but you are welcome to install whatever software or applications you prefer. We also encourage you to use anti-virus, spyware, and malware protection – there are some great free options available that will ensure optimal performance.
Application and Approval Process
Can students benefit from the UpgradeUSA program?
I just moved to the United States and need to establish credit. Can you help recent immigrants?
Yes! If you are a recent immigrant or are going through the immigration process, have a social security number, and need to establish credit, we would love to help you. Please fill out our application and select “yes” for the question “Are you a recent immigrant to the U.S.?” We encourage you to add some personal references, which could include your immigration lawyer, employer, or a family member.
Do you check credit in the UpgradeUSA application process?
While no credit history is required to do business with UpgradeUSA, and we welcome those with bad credit, we do check credit as part of the application process. We do this because we genuinely want to help our customers get their credit to a better spot, and we need to know where our customers are starting from to determine if and how we can help them. UpgradeUSA is committed to helping customers establish, build, or rebuild their credit, and we don't change our prices based on your credit score.
Can I still apply even if I have bad credit or no credit?
Yes! If you're looking for a laptop payment plan, we encourage you to apply regardless of your credit score. We look at more than just a credit score when approving our customers, because a computer-generated score doesn't tell the whole story. The UpgradeUSA program offers a step towards building better credit. The best way to build credit is to make monthly payments consistently over time, and with our low monthly prices, building your credit could not be any easier.
What are the requirements to be approved?
The first step to getting approved is to fill out our online application. Our application is quick and requests basic contact information, as well as some personal information to verify your identity. This includes your social security number and date of birth. What can I do to ensure that reporting to the credit bureaus is positive?
All you have to do is make your monthly payments on time, and we will take care of the rest. If you find yourself needing extra time, please contact us and we are happy to work with you. We enjoy delivering positive reports on our customers every month!
How often do you report to the credit bureaus?
We report our customers’ payment history every month to all 3 major U.S. credit bureaus - Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.
How much will this raise my credit score?
We appreciate that question and hear it often – it really depends on you, though. Building credit is a lot like losing weight – a diet that works for a friend may not work for you, and it’s not just eating better or exercising more; there are many factors involved that determine how quickly someone can lose weight. The same is true for improving credit scores. While we won’t have all of your credit history to make a determination on the number of points your score will increase, we do know that making consistent, on-time payments on credit accounts is the best way to build a positive credit history.
Payments and Billing
How much will my payments be?
The amount of your payment depends on the laptop or tablet computer that you select - you can see the monthly payment amount of each computer by viewing our current inventory. What payment methods do you accept?
We accept debit cards and all major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover, and American Express.
Is there a minimum lease term?
Yes, if you decide to lease with UpgradeUSA, you will need to commit to it for a few months; after that, it is a month-to-month program that you can end whenever you like by paying off the remainder of what you owe, or sending the computer back to us. The minimum lease term varies by state and is listed in the lease agreement. We provide all of our customers with a payoff table - and their payoff amount gets lower every month.
How do I make a payment?
We've worked hard to make payments very easy for our customers. When you set up your account, you will make your first payment with a credit or debit card, and will then be automatically set up for future payments. You will be able to review your payment schedule, early pay off chart, and lease agreement at any time online. If you'd like to pay off your lease early, or make advance payments, you always have the option to make one-time payments to your account by contacting our support staff.
Can I pay off my lease early?
You bet! You can pay the remaining balance on the laptop at any time! The payoff is lower with each monthly payment and the payoff schedule is available under ‘My Account’ on the UpgradeUSA site. However, as part of UpgradeUSA’s program, we report each monthly payment to all three credit bureaus, so the longer you make payments, the more credit history you will build. Please contact us if you have any questions about paying off your account early.
Do I have to make a down payment?
What if I forget to pay when my monthly payment is due?
We will set you up on an “autopay” system with your debit or credit card, like a monthly subscription, to make it easy for you to remember your payments. In addition, we will send a reminder email to the email address in your application up to 4 days prior to your payment due date so you can let us know if any changes need to be made. We are flexible and understanding in the event that alternate arrangements need to be made, but if you miss your payment, we may remotely lock the laptop from use until you contact us or make payment arrangements. At UpgradeUSA we never have, and never will, use spyware on our computers.
Will my monthly payment be more than what is listed on the site?
When will my payments be due?
We make it easy for our customers to remember their due date – the payment is due on the same date each month based on when you sign your lease agreement and make the first payment. For example, if you initiate your lease on the 15th of the month, your payments will be due on the 15th of each month. If you need to make other arrangements, please contact us and we are happy to work with you on changing the payment date.
What happens if the computer I’m leasing has some kind of error or malfunction?
All of our laptops are covered under a warranty, either directly through the manufacturer for brand-new computers, or through a third-party company for refurbished laptops. We provide you with complete warranty and service information as your lease begins. We won't leave you in a lurch - we want our customers to have the best experience possible with UpgradeUSA. If you have any questions about warranty or waiver options, please contact us!
What happens if the laptop gets damaged or lost while I am leasing it?
We sure hope that doesn't happen! But for an additional layer of protection, a small monthly waiver charge eliminates this worry. This waiver protects you from the responsibility of having to pay for extensively damaged or stolen computers while you're making use of them. If you decline the waiver, you'll be responsible for loss or damages.
